When I looked out the window early yesterday morning, I saw this pathetic sight:
Two goldfinches were huddled under the birdfeeder trying to escape a cold, steady rain. I don’t know how long they had been sitting there before I noticed them, but they continued to hunker in that spot for another 10 minutes.
Soon the wind started to howl, the temperature dropped suddenly, and the rain changed to little balls of ice.
The sound of sleet slapping the windows lasted but a few minutes before giant snowflakes began to fall from the sky.
Welcome, first snow of the season.
