Perhaps because it’s been so cold, the last few snowfalls have produced an abundance of the beautiful little snowflakes that are fun to photograph. Most of our December snows were either at night or of the heavy, wet variety where the flakes fall from the sky in clumps.
Even when the flakes float down in perfect little shapes they usually get all jumbled together and freeze and refreeze on the ground, and all you see when you pick up a handful of snow is little flecks or tiny round ice pellets. These flakes stayed perfectly shaped even as they piled up. It was one of the most captivating things I’ve ever seen.
Everywhere I looked there were millions and millions of precisely-shaped little ice crystals.
