The first of the migrating birds have arrived. Warblers will rarely come to a bird feeder, but you can sometimes entice Yellow-rumped Warblers with suet.
The other day I noticed one balancing on his tippy-toes on the feeder baffle. He was trying to reach the suet cage. I went outside and lowered it for him. While I was at it, I took the old, almost-finished suet cake out and put the remnants on the hopper feeder for the woodpeckers to eat. Then I put a new cake in the cage.
The warbler came back almost immediately. He investigated the new set-up and took a few bites of suet.
But he really chowed down when he figured out there was a bigger chunk nearby that could be had for a lot less work.
