Even with traffic whizzing by the front of our house during the morning rush, the animals are undeterred. The other day I opened my shades and discovered this handsome duo waddling around in the grass:
Mallards pair up in fall, so these two are already a couple. They got a little nervous when I snuck outside to take some photos, but the male posed for a few seconds.
They poked around under the bird feeder and then walked around in my flowerbeds for a bit. Eventually a noisy city bus came by and startled them into flight. I hit a flying Canada goose with my car one time (bad for the car, worse for the goose), so anytime a duck or goose takes off near vehicles I get a little squeamish, but they cleared all the speeding traffic just fine.
