I am trying some French Fireball Marigolds. Very small seed. How deep should I plant the seeds? Your marigolds look great! Hope you have a great Easter! Your orange daylily has such an intense colour. James

The smaller the seeds, the shallower you should plant them. Really tiny seeds like ageratums and nicotianas don’t want any soil over them at all! I would just cover your marigold seeds lightly. Once the seedlings pop up you can always tuck them in a little deeper.

Had great success with the marigolds. But far too cold to put anything outside to harden off. The last three days the temperature has been near the 0 degree mark still keeping the heat in my basement at 16. We’ve had a very cold Spring. I suppose you have your plants in by now?
Last year got our plants in the end of June! James

I’m glad your marigolds cooperated! It’s been a cold spring here, too, and WET. I brought my plants out of the basement on the 13th. I wish I’d waited because I ended up running them back into the basement a couple of days last week when severe weather threatened. That was a lot of flights of stairs!

I intended to plant everything this week and take my time, but there is rain in the forecast almost every single day this week, so yesterday I gutted it out and planted everything in one day. There was no rain but it was chilly and damp (high temp 15 degrees below normal) and I’m pretty sure there was a wind chill. It took me 9 hours to plant all the beds. Zzzzzzz.

I know the plants aren’t happy sitting in that cold soil, but I’m relieved to be done. Now I have to rest up and plant a few hundred more flowers at my parents’ house later this week. Right now the forecast calls for a dry Thursday, so hopefully that prediction will hold.

I sure hope you get some warmer weather soon!
