What a Trill!

It’s always spring for sure when the Chipping Sparrows return.

These birds have a sweet little trill that I sometimes confuse with the trill of a Dark-eyed Junco. The two species are together in my yard for just a few weeks each spring before the juncos take off for the north woods and Canada.

Chipping Sparrows like to hop around in the lawn. They eat insects and feed on the seeds of grasses.

Chipping Sparrows are common throughout all of the United States and Canada.
