I thought the cold April weather would slow down the migrating birds by few days or even weeks this year. Instead they showed up early! On Tuesday night we had some thunderstorms move through and the next morning I could see and hear several new visitors including several Rose-breasted Grosbeaks.
An Eastern Towhee was singing his “Drink your teaaaaaa” song very loudly over and over, but I just couldn’t spot him. Finally in the afternoon I caught a glimpse of him through my binoculars.
I also heard my first House Wren and Black-throated Warbler, saw a Gray Catbird, and spotted several Hermit Thrushes checking out my backyard:
