On a walk through my neighborhood in late winter, I noticed a small hole in a tree in the park. It looked like a knot that had been freshly drilled into, but there were no birds or critters around.
This week I walked by the park again and heard some chickadees chattering loudly in the trees. I stopped to watch them, and one of them flew to that small hole and popped inside.
I don’t know if they are the ones who chipped away at the hole weeks ago to make it just the right size, or if they took advantage of another bird or critter’s handiwork, but it does indeed appear they are going to raise a family in that little tree.
