We’re still about a month away from temperature-safe potted plant season, but people stuck at home are itching to see growing things. On Nextdoor there have been many posts about pansy pots over the last 2 weeks—neighbors wondering what garden centers or hardware stores have them and are doing curbside pick-up.
I’ve sprouted heat-tolerant pansies in the past to grow over the summer months, but I’ve never purchased pansies or pansy pots in early spring before. The season just always felt too short for me to bother with. But last Monday a friend bought me a pot as a gift, and it’s such a pick-me-up.
Since I don’t go anywhere now, I didn’t know where to put the pot where I could still admire it. For a few days our porch (which still has plastic on the screens) was getting a little too hot during the afternoons (upper 70s), and I was afraid it would make the pansies bolt and get leggy much faster.
But now we are heading into a week of chillier weather with little sun (and chances for snow showers), so I think the porch is probably the best place. I can set the planter on a table just outside of our french doors and see it every time I walk to the kitchen.
