I was working in my garden the other day when I was gradually surrounded by high-pitched whistles. I didn’t pay attention to them at first, but it soon dawned on me I was hearing birds, specifically Cedar Waxwings.
There were a dozen or so birds flying from tree to tree. Three of them landed on the very top of my apple tree and started rustling around. Cedar Waxwings love fruit, but obviously it’s way too early in the year for apples. What were they doing up there? I crept closer for a peek.
Apparently when there are no apples they eat the apple blossoms instead!
