Do you hate squishing spiders or trying to catch flying insects that find their way into your house? There’s a great little invention called the Spider & Wasp Trapper. I bought one from Lee Valley Tools, one of my favorite places to order gardening supplies. The Trapper is a small, clear plastic pyramid with a sliding door attached to a 16″ handle. The instructions tell you to open the door, place it over the insect (i.e. on a wall or window) and rotate the pyramid 180 degrees so that gravity causes the door to shut tightly over the insect. Then you take the Trapper outside, turn the handle back 180 degrees and the door reopens and the prisoner can escape. No more arguments about whose turn it is to get rid of the spider, and no more bug guts on the wall!
I improvise a little bit in that I put the pyramid over the bug so the door is sliding right to left. I like to close the door gently myself rather than flipping the Trapper 180 degrees because sometimes that door slams shut so fast that you end up with bits of bug, if you know what I mean. I’ve caught everything from spiders and moths to wasps and mosquitoes. It’s a very handy gadget to have around.
