A pair of American Redstarts were scouring the neighborhood oak trees for insects last week.
The birds are sometimes easier to notice than other warblers because they will fly out from a tree and back to catch insects. That’s especially helpful when the trees have fully leafed out and most of the other birds can be heard but not seen.
American Redstarts tend to droop their wings and spread their tail when perching which also sets them apart from other warblers. Good luck waiting for them to perch, however. They are almost always in constant motion. I had to take a couple hundred photos just to get a handful of useable shots.
