It’s been about 10 years since I’ve seen a Brown Creeper sneaking up one of the oaks that surround our house.
They ascend trunks of trees in a spiral fashion looking for insects. When they get to the top, they fly to the bottom of another tree and start over.
These little birds have a white belly, but their mottled brown back can make them difficult to spot because they blend in so nicely with the tree trunks.
According to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s All About Birds website, “by eating a single spider, a creeper gains enough energy to climb nearly 200 feet vertically.”
