I took a gamble on a new feeder that holds Nyger seed. Over the last couple of years the goldfinches that visit my yard have had zero interest in Nyger, so I gave up on it. But seed is so expensive this year and this feeder makes the goldfinches work for it, so I figured the seed might last longer.
I’m not sure how comfortable it is for them to cling to what amounts to a window screen, and maybe when the temperature gets colder the feeder could ice up easier than other feeders, but for now the goldfinches are visiting the feeder and more importantly, are back to eating Nyger.
