The rule of thumb around here is that Baltimore Orioles always show up on May 1st. I usually have to wait a few days longer than that to see any in my backyard, but this year at least one was right on schedule!
It was a gloomy, gray day and I wasn’t expecting much migrating bird action, but in the late afternoon an oriole dropped out of the sky and checked out one of the “signal” orange halves I put out a couple of days ago.
I quickly filled the little jelly cups with grape jelly (which they seem to love more than oranges) and soon a Gray Catbird popped in for a visit as well!
