Hanging On

Fall has fallen. I know because I’ve spent the last few days raking it up!

I still have a few flowers hanging on for dear life, and they’ll probably keep blooming until temperatures drop into the 20s(F) at night again.

My ‘MinnRuby’ perennial mums withstood the cold nights:

And I trimmed back my ‘September Ruby’ asters in July so they wouldn’t get so ridiculously tall and flop over. It didn’t work—they still grew like gangbusters, but then they flowered late and had their season cut short by frost. On warmer days bees are visiting the few flowers that remain.

And my ‘Tidal Wave Silver’ petunias are the very last annuals still blooming in my yard for the season. That’s 5 months of flowers from those plants I started from seed in early March!
