RRRRRRed Daylilies

Some of my favorite red daylilies are are older tried-but-true cultivars. ‘Over There’ (1983) grows 28″ tall with 3.5″ flowers that practically glow in the sun. You can buy ‘Over There’ from Oakes Daylilies for next to nothing (and they send huge clumps, not tiny little fans—I love Oakes). My plant has been in my garden 2 years now and this summer it bloomed almost every day for 6 weeks:

Another red I adore is ‘Kent’s Favorite Two’ (1988). This one has slightly bigger flowers, growing 26″ tall with 5.25″ blooms. My plant just keeps blooming and blooming and the flowers catch my attention from anywhere in the yard. Because of its yellow-green throat, ‘Kent’s Favorite Two’ looks smashing next to yellow or gold flowers.

I tried to purchase ‘Siloam Show Girl’ (1981) two years in a row, but ended up with mislabeled cultivars both times. I decided to give it one more shot this spring. When the first flower popped open this summer, I was thrilled to discover I finally have the right plant.

‘Siloam Show Girl’ is ruby red with a darker red eyezone. It grows only 18 inches tall with 4.25″ flowers:
