Zinnia ‘Orange King’

Benary’s and Park’s Picks zinnias are the backbone of my annual flowerbeds each year. I love the bold colors, and the flowers attract bees and hummingbirds.

Benary’s ‘Giant Orange’ zinnia seeds weren’t available when I was placing my seed packet orders last winter, but I found ‘Orange King’ instead.

While the Benary’s zinnias grow 40 to 50 inches tall, ‘Orange King’ is supposed to grow 24-36 inches tall. My plants have been topping out on the high end at 36 inches.

‘Orange King’ is a dahlia-flowering zinnia with big, bright-orange blooms.

I give my tall zinnias a head start on the blooming season by starting them indoors about 5 weeks before I want to plant them outside in the spring. You can also direct-sow the seeds in your flowerbeds.
