It’s no secret that Common Grackles are not my favorite bird. They bully other birds, and they can empty a peanut feeder in an afternoon. But when this leucistic grackle showed up in our yard recently, I was fascinated.
He’s only missing feather color on his head and neck–all the rest of his feathers appear to have the proper amount of pigment. That would make him a piebald bird.
Isn’t he cool? It looks someone carefully decorated his head with a paintbrush dipped in white.
