Marigold ‘Simba Yellow’

I’m very please with a new-to-me marigold I’m trying this summer called ‘Simba Yellow’. The photos online show a much crazier-looking flower (like someone with hair sticking up in every direction).

So far the flowers I grew have pretty tame “hair” but I don’t mind! Although if I received a different seed cultivar than I ordered I’ll be disappointed. I really love these marigolds, and want to grow them again next year.

I love how sturdy the plants are. We have had so much rain this summer, and I’ve never had to remove floppy or waterlogged blossoms after a storm. Nor have I had to remove any bent-over stems.

The plants maxed out at about 24 inches tall, so they are great for the middle of a flower border.

‘Simba Yellow’ prefers full sun and well-drained soil. My plants get about 5 hours of full sun each day.

As a bonus the plants are heat and drought-tolerant once established.

I started my seeds indoors about 4 weeks before our last average frost date.
