I sprouted a new (to me) petunia from seed this year. ‘Merlin Blue Morn’ is a 2003 AAS Winner. I wasn’t necessarily impressed with the photos in all the seed catalogs. The flowers looked almost clownish with a very distinct white center. I decided to gamble with them anyway. I’m rarely disappointed with an AAS Winner.
When the first blooms appeared, I was relieved to see that the white center is much more diffused.
‘Merlin Blue Morn’ grows 15 to 20 inches tall with a spread of 18 to 30 inches. It’s way too early in the season for me to decide if it’s a keeper or not. I think the violet-blue flowers are dazzling, but what will the plants look like in July and August?
