Out of the corner of my eye yesterday, I saw a gray and white flash at my feeder and assumed it was a White-breasted Nuthatch. Then I turned around for a better view and saw the little spiked hairdo. I knew right away that it was a Tufted Titmouse. For the second time this week, I can add another bird species to my list!
Some people might laugh at me for getting excited about a bird that’s very common at feeders in the eastern half of the United States, but I’ve been a backyard birdwatcher for over 20 years and this is the first one I’ve ever seen.
Tufted Titmice are gradually expanding their range northward. This could be the first of many that will visit my backyard. Or perhaps this bird’s wanderlust just got the best of him.
