I get suspicious when I see birds sleeping during the day. It often means they are sick. I’ve watched more than one napping bird get snatched away by a hungry hawk.
I was concerned when I saw this finch snoozing on the shrub outside my window, but I quickly realized she was a healthy bird that just wanted to sunbathe. On yet another spring day when the temperature barely made it above 50 degrees she was just thankful for the warm sunshine on her feathers:
She was clearly enjoying herself, and I got sleepy just watching her:
She even let out a big yawn:
