Prepping for the Cold

I recently watched this female House Sparrow gather plant material. In the winter, many birds sleep outside in thick vegetation or evergreen trees. Others, like woodpeckers and nuthatches sleep in tree cavities. House Sparrows prefer to roost in birdhouses or nesting boxes.

This sparrow must’ve found a suitable winter shelter somewhere in the neighborhood and she wants to make sure it will be warm and cozy.
