Every time I visit a garden center, the same heuchera (coral bells) catches my eye. After being lured repeatedly for several years, I finally bought one of the beauties this spring.
Heuchera ‘Midnight Rose’ has blackish-red leaves with hot pink splotches and spots. As summer wears on the splotches will fade to a cream color:
‘Midnight Rose’ grows only 10 inches tall with a spread of up to 16 inches. Flowers appear in summer on two-foot-tall stems.
The plants have a compact habit and are hardy in Zones 4-9. The dark leaves really stand out against all the other green leaves in the garden.
At least now when I want to admire this cultivar, I only have to walk into my backyard.
