For the first time in my life, I saw Swallowtail and Monarch butterflies in March when we had the freakishly warm weather (which should’ve been a warning sign to leave for the North Pole immediately…can’t believe I missed that one).
Once the weather got beastly dry and hot, the butterflies disappeared. I can’t remember a summer with so few butterflies (or crickets or fireflies for that matter).
We were finally blessed with some rain in late July and like magic the Monarchs and Swallowtails reappeared. At least now something can enjoy the flowers on my Jack-in-the-Beanstalk-sized butterfly bushes.
