A few weeks ago I was annoyed with Gomphrena ‘Flashing Light’ and its flagging-in-the-heat behavior.
After a little rain and some cooler temperatures (translation: 90 degrees rather than 100), the plants have been rallying:
Compared to the lush Audray series gomphrenas, ‘Flashing Light’ is scrawny. However, I may be willing to sacrifice girth for that dazzling, orangy-red color:
If I grow this cultivar again I’ll make sure to pack the plants more closely together for a bushier appearance.
‘Flashing Light’ grows 16 inches tall. I started my plants from seed indoors in early March.
