What’s Wrong with Subtle?

Whenever I read anything about Northern Cardinals, the female is always described as dull or drab. Well yes, compared to such a flashy, bright-red partner who wouldn’t be a disappointment?

The female cardinal’s tan feathers won’t turn heads, but they show off her dark eyes, and there’s an understated beauty in that whisper of red that peeks out from her crest, wings and tail.
