Every year I like to try something different in my flowerbeds. I’ve never grown annual asters before, so I decided to give them a shot this year. Wow, am I ever glad I did.
Aster ‘Milady Deep Blue’ has beautiful dark-purple to purple 3-inch blooms. The plants grow 10 to 12 inches tall.
My only complaint is that the bunnies thought these plants were very delicious. On the bright side, they rallied like no other plant I’ve seen under duress. They have bloomed all summer long despite being “trimmed” occasionally by the rude rodents.
The purple flowers look dazzling with just about any color. I have some planted with coral zinnias (photo above) and yellow zinnias (photo below):
They weren’t next to any red flowers, but I managed to crouch low enough to get the two colors in the same frame and I think they would look stunning together. Next year I will be planting ‘Milady Deep Blue’ next to some deep-red Dreamland zinnias.
