This is the trunk of my apple tree. Pathetic, isn’t it? But that’s not why I’m sharing this photo. Look closely and you’ll see a well-camouflaged little bird.
I know the spring migration has officially begun when I spot my first Brown Creeper. It’s fun to watch these tiny little birds in action. They fly to the bottom of a tree trunk and then creep along in a spiral pattern toward the top looking for insects to extract with their curved bill. When they reach the top of the tree, they drop down to the base of another tree and start all over again.
Brown Creepers are challenging to photograph because they are constantly in motion. That’s when my camera’s sports mode comes in handy.
