A Blast of Blue

My Brunnera macrophylla (Siberian Bugloss) plant has been buried under some unruly neighbors the last couple of years so I’ve missed the flowers if there were any. I remembered to move the offending perennials in early April, and my plant rewarded me with a nice display of fetching blue flowers:

This forget-me-not cousin blooms in mid-spring in partial to full shade. It grows 12 to 16 inches tall.

The show was shortened a little this year by hot weather. The trees weren’t fully leafed out and the plant got a little bit more heat and sun than it prefers. Most of the flowers withered within a few days.

This mounding woodland plant prefers moist, well-drained soil and is hardy in Zones 3-8.
