I was outside filling the feeders a few days ago when I noticed some strange markings in the snow. I studied them for a few minutes and finally realized what I was looking at. Earlier that morning 2 crows had been making such a ruckus that I could hear them from inside the house. I went to the window and saw them wrestling in the snow. By the time I turned to grab my camera they vanished, however not without a trace.
One bird totally flattened the other so well that you can even see where his head and wings were pressed into the snow (the little black specks on the photo are Nyger seeds). It reminds me of the eagle on the back of a quarter. All around the scene are little scratch marks left by the tips of their feathers. It looks like Freddy Krueger and Edward Scissorhands had a tussle.
I don’t know if they were playing or trying to kill one another, but they both flew off so that’s a good sign. Maybe they were just as sick of the snow as the rest of us and decided to make some snow angels!

Hi Em,
Cool pictures! You got to take them before the imprint got covered by more snow.
The birds have to do something to stay warm—and not freeze (especially after yesterday’s ice storm!).
