It turns out those squirrels knew exactly what they were doing last Wednesday when they were nervously building their nests. On Friday night the first snowstorm of the season blew across parts of the Midwest including southern Wisconsin.
We awoke to just under 6 inches of sticky, wet snow. Places just to our south received as much as 17 inches. Six inches was plenty, thank you.
For most of the morning the flakes continued to fly and my backyard feeders saw action like they haven’t seen in years. At one point I counted almost 200 birds either at the feeders or underneath them.
