The aster growing season was cut short this year by a violent hailstorm that pummeled my flowers in late September. Before that storm, a new aster that I planted in the spring showed great promise.
Aster novi-belgii ‘Marie Ballard’ has lavender-blue flowers that appear on 24-inch plants. The flowers are supposed to be double, but all the blooms on my plant were single–or at least started out that way before the hailstorm wreaked havoc.
When my plant blooms again next fall I’ll have a better idea if it’s really ‘Marie Ballard’ or if I was sold a mislabeled plant. Either way I’m enamored with this plant’s abundance of tiny, colorful flowers.
