A giant bird has taken over my platform birdfeeder. I’m pretty sure this female turkey is nesting nearby.
She usually comes to our yard twice a day. When she flies to the feeder her impressive wingspan (compared to a songbird) and the shadow she casts always startle me into thinking some giant creature is about to smack into the window. It makes me jump every time.
This turkey isn’t phased at all by my presence. I can wave my arms in the window or talk to her through the screen and she just pauses, looks me over and keeps on eating.
If I go outside to move a sprinkler or fill another feeder she stays put as long as i don’t get within about 7 feet of her.
I think she looks pretty comfortable in my backyard, don’t you?
