Even though I have cardinal flowers and tall red salvias blooming in my flowerbeds right now, the hummingbirds are going crazy for the tall nicotianas (flowering tobacco).
I grow two cultivars–‘Daylight Sensation’ and ‘Whisper Mix’. Both have flowers in shades of pink, lavender and white and both grow about 3 to 4 feet tall and bloom all summer.
The stems on these plants aren’t very strong, so they may blow over in a downpour or stiff breeze, so I stake the main stem to keep them upright, but other than that they are carefree and easy to grow.
Both cultivars self-seed (but not in an invasive sort of way), so I usually get some bonus plants in my flowerbeds each summer.
