I was outside in the yard for most of the afternoon yesterday (we finally climbed above 70 degrees—yay!) so there weren’t a lot of birds around, but I did hear the distinct trill of a Chipping Sparrow, one of the birds I’m most happy to see each spring. Later, a pair of them visited my birdbath.
They are very tame little birds and fun to watch as they hop around looking for insects. They like to build nests in evergreens, and with my arborvitae hedge I can certainly offer them plenty of options. Maybe I’ll get lucky and they’ll nest in my backyard this year.
