Preponderance of Pine Siskins

Now instead of one sassy Pine Siskin, I have 75 of them (at last count).

These tree-seed-eating finches prefer thistle and sunflower seeds when they visit birdfeeders. From a distance you can barely tell them apart from goldfinches whose plumage is so very bland this time of year.

Pine Siskins are chatty and make a buzzy sound when they sit in the tree tops near my feeders. So many birds are quiet in the winter, but not these slender little finches!

While I am drowning in Pine Siskins right now, they don’t seem to consume bird seed as quickly as the goldfinches do when they arrive in large flocks. Check with me again in a few weeks…
