I’ve had Ruby-crowned Kinglets migrate through my yard in years past, but never this many. It’s been hard for me to get anything done in the last 2 days because all I want to do is go outside and watch the little birds go about their business.
I thought they couldn’t get any cuter when a male burst into song above my head this morning. It sounded like somebody responding to a funny joke. First some hearty ha-ha-ha’s and then “hee-hee-heeeee” as he really got wound up. This explosion of song lasted about 2 minutes as he jumped all over the place flashing his red crown. Like cicadas, wrens and other small creatures, it’s amazing how much sound can come out of such a tiny little bundle of energy.
