I was only able to get one slightly fuzzy shot of this Baltimore Oriole that dropped into my yard the other day. Seeing him was a pleasant surprise.
But his visit also means summer is winding down fast, and some of the birds are already starting to gather to head south for the winter.
There have been other bird signs as well. In the evenings I’ve been hearing flocks of Sandhill Cranes flying over our house. And geese are gathering in larger flocks to feed in farm fields or hang out in all the flood waters we have in our area right now.
And this week I read that the monarch butterflies are also starting to migrate.
