There’s a hydroelectric plant on the Wisconsin River north of Madison. Over the weekend my friend and I wanted to see how much the river had swelled up after all of our flooding rains, so we took a little trip.
I’ve never seen the Wisconsin River that high before in that area. Usually you can spot a sandbar or two, but the water was right up to the banks on both sides–and that was after several days without rain.
The dam was churning out thunderous waves of water, but it didn’t seem to bother the flock of Double-crested Cormorants that was hanging out nearby.
