These handsome gentleman visited my feeders in the spring. Rose-breasted Grosbeaks are my first hint that the orioles, tanagers and Indigo Buntings are not far behind.
I don’t see a lot of the same birds in the fall, but every once in awhile one or two drop in for a quick bite to eat before continuing south. Two weeks ago I was sitting on my screen porch when a Nashville Warbler landed on some nearby zinnias looking for insects.
On Friday this female Rose-breasted Grosbeak visited my platform feeder.
She was only there for a few minutes and I didn’t see any other grosbeaks.
It won’t be long now before the White-Throated Sparrows and Dark-eyed Juncos arrive. Some of them will stay for the entire winter.
