Native coneflowers are great plants for pollinators. I got distracted for a few years with the hybrid coneflowers, but they just don’t survive brutal winters, and I’ve learned my lesson. They also don’t bloom as strongly as the natives.
The only challenge is that they are also a favorite of Japanese Beetles. Although, unlike marigolds which they completely devour down to the very last petal, they usually leave the petals intact and instead just chomp a bunch of holes in them.
I’m going to roll the dice and plant more coneflowers this spring.
