Coasting for Carcasses

I couldn’t get my camera out fast enough to snap a photo of the Turkey Vulture that flew 10 feet above my head the other day. He and his companions were riding the thermals in our neighborhood for an hour or so.

We see them in city in the spring, but then they usually disperse for the  nesting season. However last summer people in our neighborhood reported that some of the birds were either nesting or roosting in a park about 6 blocks from our house.

A few days later 2 of them were cruising above our yard again.

With a wingspan of almost 6 feet, these soaring birds are hard to miss!
