My backyard has become a hawk hangout over the last two weeks. This Cooper’s Hawk isn’t even subtle about it—he lands on the birdfeeders and waits patiently in hopes an oblivious songbird will make a mistake.
And the Blue Jays in our neighborhood do an impeccable impression of a Red-tailed Hawk and love to pull that trick to scare the other birds from the feeders. But the other day a real Red-tailed Hawk showed up. He stayed high in the tree tops and the smaller birds didn’t seem at all concerned (they are barely a morsel of nourishment for a bird that large), but the crows sounded the alarm.
