This Mum’s in a Hurry

It always freaks me out a little bit when some of my mums begin blooming in August already. I think of mums as strictly fall plants.

‘Grape Glow’ usually blooms toward the end of August, but it’s getting a head start this year.

All of the flowers look a little crazy and twisted, so I wonder if there’s some environmental thing (too much rain earlier in the season?) that has prompted this plant to bloom early?

‘Grape Glow’ is a hardy (Zone 4) Minnesota mum that grows about 18 inches tall.
