This year I tried a new salvia called ‘Big Blue’. It’s a cross between a farinacea salvia and a longispicata.
The plants grow 24 to 36 inches high and most of mine topped out at 30 inches.
The flowers are indeed more blue than other salvias and while the plants are supposed to start blooming in mid-July, my flowers didn’t start appearing until mid-August. But I was okay with that because by then all my perennials and many of my annuals were already either tired or done for the season. The flowers were a much-welcomed sight, and as they’ve continue to bloom they’ve been a favorite of hummingbirds.
I would definitely grow ‘Big Blue’ again.
