Revisiting Garden Winners: Daylily ‘Double Cutie’

Daylily ‘Double Cutie’ is still one of the first daylilies to bloom in my garden each spring. It is always loaded with buds, and it often reblooms later in the growing season. Here’s what I said about ‘Double Cutie’ 12 years ago:

I first spotted ‘Double Cutie’ on a daylily tour and thought it resembled a daffodil with its cheery, double-yellow blooms. I had no idea this daylily would turn out to be one of the most reliable plants in my garden.

‘Double Cutie’ grows 13″ tall with 4″ blooms, so it makes a great plant for the front or middle of the border. The flowers are fragrant and there are a lot of them. This plant will bloom for weeks on end. Last year it was the first daylily to bloom in my garden even though its first scape was frozen off in a late-April snowstorm. This year ‘Double Cutie’ was the 2nd daylily cultivar to bloom for me, but it managed to send up flowers a full week earlier than last year.

My plant has 9 scapes on it so far, and I counted over 70 buds. ‘Double Cutie’ is simply a blooming fool.
