‘Viva la Vida’ is an interesting cross between an Oriental lily and an Asiatic lily which is then crossed back to an Asiatic lily (following along so far?). It’s known as an “Asia-ental” and it’s supposed to have a larger flower than an Asiatic lily.
This is not to be confused with Orienpets (a cross between Oriental and trumpet lilies) or LA hybrids (a cross between Asiatic lilies and Easter lilies). I don’t know who decided to make all these crosses, but I’m glad they have because all these new lily types are really fun to grow.
‘Viva la Vida’ grows 3 to 4 feet tall. It bloomed for me this summer at the same time as my LA hybrid lilies (so starting in early July).
The flowers are bright yellow with a cherry red splash on the petals and sepals and blackberry-colored freckles.
This lily is hardy in USDA Zones 5-10.
