I have at least two Red-breasted Nuthatches visiting the peanut feeders daily. One is very tame and lets me walk up within a foot of him when he’s hanging on the feeder.
That gave me an idea. Maybe I could get him to take a peanut from my hand! I tried it the other day, and he let me put my hand right next to his little noggin, but he didn’t take the bait. He just kept pecking away at the peanut feeder and chattering at me as if that giant human hand wasn’t even there.
That’s alright. I’m not going anywhere (quite literally since COVID has us mostly grounded again!). I have plenty of time to keep trying.
